Life as a Daily Nanny in London

Being a daily nanny in London is a role filled with love, laughter, and the occasional toddler negotiation. Every day brings something new, from school drop offs and nursery runs to baby classes and park walks.

At Evelyn & Bloom, we’re proud to represent professional, caring nannies who make family life run smoothly. Here’s a look at what a typical term-time day looks like for one of our experienced London nannies caring for three little girls, aged 4, 3, and 5 months.

8:00 AM – Morning Start

I arrive just as breakfast is finishing. Mornings are cheerful chaos tidying up the kitchen, brushing teeth, finding missing socks, and helping everyone get dressed and ready for the day.

The 4 year old is wonderfully independent and dresses herself in her school uniform. Her 3 year old sister needs a little more encouragement, especially when she’d rather keep playing than get ready! Meanwhile, the baby sits happily in her bouncer watching her sisters’ morning antics.

8:30 AM – School Run

By 8:30, we’re out the door for the school run. Two girls whizzing off on their scooters with a buggy in tow. The 4 year old skips into school with her book bag, full of chatter and excitement for the day ahead. Once she’s safely dropped off, we continue on the nursery run.

9:00 AM – Nursery Drop-Off

Next stop: nursery for the 3 year old. After a cheerful wave goodbye, the pace of the morning shifts. It’s now just me and the baby until midday , which a peaceful, nurturing part of the day I always enjoy.

9:15 AM – Baby Adventures

With the older girls at school and nursery, the baby and I head out for morning activities around North London. Depending on the day, we might:

  • Attend a Baby Sensory class or Sparky Songs in Highbury Fields

  • Pop into the library for Rhyme Time

  • Take a gentle walk around the park or local river walk

  • Stop for a coffee and a chat with other local parents and nannies

These outings are wonderful for the baby’s development, full of new sounds, sights, and smiles. It’s also a great way to stay connected with other caregivers in the area.

12:00 PM – Nursery Pick Up & Lunchtime

By midday, it’s time to collect the 3 year old from nursery. She’s always full of energy (and stories about snack time). Back home, I prepare a healthy lunch, perhaps pesto pasta with vegetables, avocado on toast with fruit, or sweetcorn fritters with vegetable sticks.

The 3 year old enjoys her lunch while the baby has a feed, and soon after, both are ready for a nap and quiet time.

1:00 PM – Nap and Quiet Play

During nap time, the baby sleeps while the 3 year old has quiet time with books, puzzles or drawing. I tidy up the play areas, prep bottles, and get everything ready for the afternoon school run.

This short calm window is the perfect reset before the big sister comes home.

3:30 PM – School Pick-Up

By mid-afternoon, it’s time to collect the 4 year old from school. She’s not always eager to share her day straight away, it usually takes a little gentle coaxing (and a snack!) before she starts to open up. Once she’s had a bite to eat, she’ll happily tell me about her artwork, playground adventures or phonics lessons.

If the weather’s nice, we often stop at the park on the way home to let the girls run off some energy before heading back for the evening routine.

4:00 PM – Home Play

Back home, the girls enjoy imaginative play, building with blocks, or craft activities, while I juggle feeding and changing the baby. Sometimes we’ll bake simple treats together, read stories, or have a bit of music and dancing before dinner prep begins.

5:00 PM – Dinner

The girls usually help me with laying the table, then we sit down together for a relaxed and familiar dinner such as: red dragon pie, (the most amazing recipe in the book - How to wean your baby by Charlotte Stirling- Reed) pasta with hidden vegetables, or salmon, peas and homemade chips are regular favourites. The baby usually sits with us too, watching her big sisters chatting at the table.

We talk about the day, what made them laugh, what they enjoyed most and what they’re looking forward to tomorrow. It’s a calm, happy way to bring everyone together before parents arrive home and bedtime routines begin.

6:00 PM – Handover and Home Time

As the parents return, I give a quick summary of the day, how the girls were, what they ate, naps, any milestones or memorable moments. Then it’s time to head home, ready to return the next morning for another busy, fun filled day.
